Der junge Mann schl\u00e4gt sich w\u00e4hrend der britischen Besatzung als Kleinkrimineller durch. Martin wird zeitgleich von der IRA, also auch vom britischen Geheimdienst angeworben. Sein dortiger Verbindungsmann hei\u00dft Fergus (gespielt von Ben Kingsley). Anfangs genie\u00dft Martin die durch seine Spitzelt\u00e4tigkeit erworbenen Annehmlichkeiten und bew\u00e4ltigt das Doppelleben ganz passabel. Als Martin bei der IRA immer mehr Verantwortung erh\u00e4lt, zieht auch der Geheimdienst die Schlinge immer enger.
