McClelland’s ist ein Abfüller, der zu Morrison Bowmore gehört und seinen Firmensitz in Glasgow hat. Die Firma vertreibt vier verschiedene Single Malts, die jeweils eine der vier großen Whisky Regionen Schottlands repräsentieren. Heute war bei mir der “McClelland’s Lowland” im Glas. Angesichts der Tatsache, dass die Auchentoshan Destillerie zu Morrison Bowmore gehört, liegt natürlich der Verdacht nahe, dass es sich hier um eine Variante des beliebten Lowland Whiskies handeln könnte.
Der Whisky wurde mit 40% abgefüllt und hat im Glas eine goldene Farbe.
Anfangs sind kräftige Apfelnoten erkennbar. Süße Aromen, deutliche Schärfe, überreife Früchte, Eiche, etwas Vanille und später noch Toffeenoten. Klingt nicht schlecht, ist aber nicht besonders aufregend.
Der Whisky hat im Mund eine leicht ölige Konsistenz. Eiche, süße Fruchtnoten, kräftige alkoholische Schärfe und Parfumnoten. Gegen Ende etwas bitter. Geschmacklich eine kleine Katastrophe.
Der Abgang ist tendziell kurz. Fruchtige Noten, Eiche und Schärfe.
Der Whisky ist sehr scharf und hat mir überhaupt nicht geschmeckt. Mit dem erst kürzlich verkosteten 12-jährigen Auchentoshan hat der McClelland’s Lowland in meiner Wahrnehmung gar nichts gemeinsam. Um den gleichen Preis gibt es bereits bessere Lowland-Whiskies wie den Auchentoshan 12y oder den Glenkinchie 12y.
Nose: Body odor. I’m not joking. Body odor is the first thing I smell drifting out of this bottle. Underneath the eau de hippie is a mild malt, light caramel, some imitation vanilla and stagnant tidal pools. There is a thread of rotting veg, like when a bag of salad is left in the back of your fridge, running through the whole thing.
Taste: I can taste the body odor. It’s quite unpleasant. There is a bit of malt, honey, and a very ambiguous floral fruity flavor that is paired with sour milk. It’s just truly terrible stuff. Weirdly hot. So rough that all it does is enhance the unbalanced terrible nature of this whisky.
Finish: It is a mercifully short finish filled with B.O. and a strangely out of place malt, honey and a hint of wood.
